Dr. Ralph Perrino
founders_ralphDr. Perrino established Northern Virginia Tutoring Service, LLC in 1995 after a long career in the public and private sectors. Dr. Perrino is currently an Associate Professor (adjunct) of Behavioral Science at Northern Virginia Community College where he has taught sociology, political science and business management since 1984. Dr. Perrino is the author of Issues, Strategies and Concerns in Education Today: A Collection of Essays, as well as several essays in professional journals and magazines, Dr. Perrino has prepared numerous position papers, management studies, and critical analyses of current issues in education. He has extensive experience working with parents, school officials and civic groups to resolve difficult problems associated with academic achievement. Dr. Perrino has also been featured on the Ric Edelman Show, The Eric Stewart Show, Northern Virginia Magazine, Family Magazine, and numerous other media outlets, including Arlington Public Television's Sustainable Scoop show.

Dr. Perrino has served as both President of the Board of Washington Independent Services for Educational Resources (WISER) and Chairman of the Board of the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce. He is the past Vice-President of the Board of the Fairfax Partnership for Youth, a Board member of Friends of Arlington's David M. Brown Planetarium, and a past member of the Falls Church City Education Foundation, the Falls Church Public Schools Business in Education Program, and the Arlington Public Schools Partners in Education Program. Dr. Perrino also serves as President of Faction of Fools Theater Company, and is on the Board of Creative Cauldron Theater Company.

Dr. Perrino was honored with a 2009 James B. Hunter III Community Hero Award for his work in support of programs at Patrick Henry Elementary School, where he mentored students from kindergarten through fifth grades for more than twenty years. The event was part of Arlington County's annual Neighborhood Day celebration. Perrino "is an outstanding example of giving back to the community," said Annie Frye, assistant principal at the elementary school, who made the nomination. In 2006, the Arlington School Administrators recognized Dr. Perrino's civic involvement and experience by awarding him the prestigious Arlington School Administrator's Civic Award. He was awarded the prestigious Northern Virginia Community College Education Foundation Outstanding Service to the College (adjunct faculty of the year) Award for 2012. Dr. Perrino was selected as the sole recipient of this award out of pool of more than 1,300 adjunct faculty at the college. On April 29, 2016, Dr. Perrino was awarded the Jean C. Netherton Award of Excellence (adjunct faculty of the year) Award at Northern Virginia Community College.

Mrs. Denise Perrino
Denise Perrino, Operations Manager, Northern Virginia Tutoring Service


founders_deniseMrs. Perrino is a retired educator and director with 34 years experience in the Fairfax County Public Schools where she taught Theatre Arts, Public Speaking, Reading, Film Study, and Language Arts, grades 7-12. Mrs. Perrino was instrumental in the development and writing of curriculum for Fairfax County Public Schools including Drama to the Core!, an approach to learning that incorporates theater into core subject areas. She directed over 100 theatre productions. Under her direction, McLean High School was nominated for 55 Cappies Awards, winning 15, including Best Play in 2002, and was also invited to perform at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A graduate of Catawba College, Mrs. Perrino is a charter inductee of The Blue Masque Hall of Fame, in recognition of her meritorious life in the theatre. She served as President of the Fairfax County Theatre Teachers (TADA) from 1984-1988; Co-President from 1998-1999; Vice President of TADA from 1982-1988 and 2008-2009; Chair of the Secondary School Division and Chair of the Young People’s Theatre with Virginia Theatre Association from 1989-1993; Member, The American Alliance of Theatre Educators (AATE); has presented Bring Drama to the Core at Arena Stage; Past Board Member, Vienna Community Theatre; part of creative team for Faction of Fools Theatre Company of Washington, DC, and Creative Cauldron Theatre of Falls Church, Virginia; She currently serves as Director of Education at Creative Cauldron and also as Operations Manager for Northern Virginia Tutoring Service. Mrs. Perrino specializes in audition techniques for college admission; private lessons for acting, monologue coaching, public speaking, and vocal coaching. Mrs. Perrino works with students to create comfort, expression and freedom in spoken communication by building ease and poise in speaking and performing. She taught Theatre Arts, Public Speaking, Reading, Film Study, and Language Arts, grades 7-12.
