SAT In-Home Tutoring

Many students find that augmenting what they have learned in school with individualized tutoring as the exam approaches engenders increased self-confidence and enhanced test scores. Most students also learn better (and faster!) in a one-on-one setting, or they may require a more flexible schedule due to extracurricular activities. Finally, one-on-one tutoring also allows students to focus on just the areas of the SAT where they experience difficulties, rather than sitting in class listening to explanations of things they already understand.

A student who is psychologically prepared for the SAT examination has a greater chance of performing at his or her highest potential. Our tutors spend a significant amount of time providing students the tools they will need to approach the exam free of misconceptions and anxiety. I just wanted to let you know how pleased I have been with the tutor you provided for my son. Ken (the tutor) has been wonderful. I just wish I had contacted you earlier. When I first contacted you, my son had a D in Algebra. Working with Ken, we just learned that he earned a B for this quarter with an A on his final exam!…Ken is an amazing tutor – very patient and explains concepts amazingly well…Thanks so much for the wonderful service!

Our tutors will address the following:

  • Test-taking tips and strategies
  • Overall familiarity with the format of the exam
  • Practice tests and questions
  • Explanation of and practice for the new essay portion of the test.
  • Overview of subject matter covered in the exam, focusing on areas of weakness.
We believe that in order to perform to one’s potential, a strong understanding of math concepts, reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar and punctuation, and other language mechanics is essential. These are fundamental skills that must be mastered if one is to perform well on any standardized exam.

Changes in SAT Exam

The SAT examination changed in March 2005. The most significant changes were the addition of a writing/verbal component that comprises 800 of the new 2,400 points, the elimination of the analogies section in the verbal section of the exam, and the bolstering of the math portion to include Algebra II and other, more advanced, math concepts. Our tutors are prepared to address these changes. Our individualized, one-on-one instruction also will recognize and adapt to these changes.
